84, passed away peacefully at the Village House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Newport on August 7, 2018 after a brief illness. Born in Bridgeport, CT and raised in Providence and Matunuck, RI, he was the son of the late John L. and Margaret (Cummings) McHenry. Matt spent his childhood and early life in Providence and Matunuck, RI. He graduated from Providence Country Day ('52) and the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce ('56), University of Pennsylvania,PA. He served as the President of the Finance Society at Wharton and was Director of the National Consumer Finance Association from 1968-1972. He was active in his community serving as both President and Treasurer for the Friendlv Sons of St.Patrick in Providence and President of the Matunuck Community Association in South Kingstown. Matt held various high level financial positions throughout his career. He was Vice President and Treasurer of Local Finance Corporation; Senior Loan Officer with Sovereign Bank and President of International Consultants, LLC. He lived in Newport, RI for over 30 years. Matt loved to ski and deep sea fish. He won a Deep Sea Tournament fishing Giant Tuna with a best of 895 lbs. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his children; Matthew J. McHenry Jr (Jennifer) and Paul J. McHenry both of Largo, FL., grandson Patrick M. McHenry and his loving soul mate Mary J. Thomas of Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John L. and Robert C. McHenry and his former wife, Barbara (Oates) McHenry. He will be sadly missed by friends and his nieces Anne Cook (Bill) and Jeanne Helma (Tom) amongst numerous others. Calling hours respectfully omitted. Burial will be private.
