Michael E. Caparco, 89, of East Greenwich and Naples, FL, died June 11, 2017. He was the husband of Johanne P. (Hanley) Caparco and the late Catherine M. (Palmer) Caparco. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late Antonio and Caroline (Sassi) Caparco.
Mr. Caparco was a licensed funeral director and embalmer for more than 60 years. His accomplished career in funeral service started in New Jersey where he owned and operated the Caparco Funeral Home in Bordentown and served as coroner of Burlington County. In Rhode Island, he later owned and operated the former Macari-Caparco Funeral Home in Johnston and currently, with his daughters, the Hill Funeral Home in East Greenwich, where his girls will continue his legacy.
A proud US Army Veteran of WWII and Korea, he served in the 350th Infantry Regiment, Medical Company. He was a 1957 graduate of the former Eckels College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Church in East Greenwich and St. Ann's Church in Naples, FL. Mike belonged to and contributed to numerous organizations including the East Greenwich American Legion Post #15, the VFW, East Greenwich Veteran Fireman's Association, East Greenwich Rotary Club where he was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award, the Varnum Continentals, Kentish Guard, the Bourbonnais Regiment, US Navy League and the Armed Forces Civilian Council.
He was a loving husband, a devoted father, a cherished grandfather and loyal friend to many. He loved the community he served.
Besides his wife, he leaves daughters Deborah A. Caparco Runshe and Betsy M. Caparco Harris and her husband John; grandson Michael R. Runshe and his fiancé Melissa Osborn and granddaughter Brianna Runshe; a sister Rose Christi and brothers Anthony and Joseph Caparco. He was preceded in death by his son in law Hans "Chuck" Runshe and siblings Ernest, Vincent and Albert Caparco, Mary Pascone and Anna Francazio.
A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 14th at 10:00am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich. Burial with military honors will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, East Greenwich. Calling hours: Tuesday, June 13th, 3-7pm at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made to Beacon Hospice, 1130 Ten Rod Rd., Suite C 104, North Kingstown, RI, 02852 or Our Lady of Mercy Church.
