Michael McAteer, 81, of Warwick, passed away peacefully at home, with family by his side, on November 22nd, 2022. A lifelong Rhode Islander, Michael was a very active lawyer through an enjoyed retirement, starting in 2008. Michael was born in Providence to Dr. Raymond and Helen McAteer (Feeney) on May 17th, 1941. Michael resided in Cranston and Warwick. Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen MacInnis of Warwick and his two sons, Sean M. McAteer of Warwick, and Raymond F. McAteer of New York, as well as his four grandchildren: Mary, Keith, Brendan, and Christiana. Michael was a 1963 graduate of Providence College and a 1966 graduate of Boston University School of Law. He was a skilled and prolific trial attorney, successfully arguing in front of hundreds of juries over five decades. An avid sailor and cribbage player, Michael was a devoted husband, parent, and grandparent and introduced a love of Rhode Island waters to his family and inspired a son and grandson to also become attorneys. Wednesday evenings competing in the Pawtuxet Athletic Club Cribbage League were a consistent highlight of his week and ocean cruises with his wife Kathy a consistent highlight of his years. Funeral services entrusted to J.F. Skeffington Funeral Home and Cremations 925 Chalkstone Avenue, Providence there will be a visitation on Wednesday, November 30th from 10:30-12 followed by service then burial in St Ann Cemetery Cranston.
