Nancy Smeed

Nancy (McGrath) Smeed, 76, passed away August 5, 2026 in Providence. Born on February 12, 1950, in Providence, Nancy was the daughter of the late William J. McGrath and Carolyn (O’Sullivan) McGrath.

Nancy’s earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1971, a Master of Business Administration from Bryant College in 1983, and a Juris Doctor from New England School of Law in 1989.

Nancy enjoyed a career in law. She was admitted to practice in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Florida and was admitted to the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island. Throughout her career, she was involved with several professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, the National Association of Female Executives (NAFE), the Women’s Bar Association of the Rhode Island Bar Association, and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.

Nancy is survived by her siblings, William J. McGrath, Mary Jane (McGrath) Iannuccilli and her husband George Iannuccilli, Mark McGrath and his wife Cristina Andreana. She was predeceased by her siblings Patricia McGrath, Robert McGrath, and Michael McGrath, as well as her former spouse of Edward Smeed, and stepdaughter, Janeen Smeed.
