With heavy hearts and sadness, the family of Olga (Lusi) O'Brien announce her passing on May 25, 2025, at the age of 102. A long-time resident of East Greenwich and Narragansett (Bonnet Shores), Olga was the daughter of Luigi and Madelena (Sardelli) Lusi and the widow of William R. O'Brien to whom she was married for 58 years.
She was a dedicated daughter, wife, mother, aunt, teacher and friend but education was the essence of her life. She graduated from Saint Xavier Academy, Rhode Island College, and the University of Rhode Island. As math & science teacher in Johnston and Cranston for 37 years, she was a committed mentor to new teachers entering the profession. With her husband, she supported scholarships at Rhode Island College, Bryant University, and the University of Rhode Island. In 2002, she and her husband were recognized by the Rhode Island Foundation as Outstanding Partners in Philanthropy for their commitment to educational funding.
Throughout her life, Olga remained deeply connected to her community. She was a founding member of the Marion Mohr Library in the town of Johnston and a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church in East Greenwich and Saint Veronica's Chapel at Bonnet Shores.
After retiring from teaching, Olga embraced new adventures and continued her service to others. She loved to travel and talk about her trips to Alaska, Germany, Italy, Spain, Ireland, and Hawaii. She also devoted many hours of volunteer service to the elderly bringing enjoyment to nursing homes and senior communities. Throughout her life, Olga was known for her inquisitive nature and love of conversation - she delighted in talking with people and learning about their backgrounds. Until the very end, she remained witty and engaging, always eager to connect with others.
Olga is survived by her three children - Patricia (Joe Badaracco), Maureen, and David – as well as nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was the sister of Robert Lusi (Carol) and the late Armando Lusi (Helen) and Dora D'Abbraccio. She cherished her many relationships with nieces and nephews.
Her family appreciates the loving community of Bright View Commons which she enjoyed for the past twelve years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday May 30th at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich, RI.
