Ollie A. Kirk

Ollie Anderson Kirk, of North Kingstown, RI, stepped into the presence of the Lord on March 4, 2018 after 88 years in His service.

She was the daughter of Birger S. and Minnie Lindstrom Anderson and was born in the Crompton section of West Warwick, RI on April 8, 1929. After attending West Warwick High School, she did her undergraduate work at Rhode Island College and graduate work at the University of Rhode Island. Ollie taught for thirty years in the East Greenwich and West Warwick public schools.

A gifted musician, Ollie began playing the piano at the age of seven, and embarked on her musical career two years later, when she became Sunday School pianist at the Swedish Evangelical Covenant Church in Crompton. She was an accomplished pianist and organist, working as an accompanist and church musician for over seventy years.  It was through her work as a church musician that she met Edgar S. Kirk, who was studying for the ministry. They wed in 1952 and were married until Edgar’s death in 2007.

Ollie leaves the family that was the center of her life: her children, Susan, Peter, Margaret, Elizabeth, and Andrea; her grandchildren, Benjamin, Joshua, Holly, and Eric; and her great-grandchildren, Timothy and Emma. Her only brother Russell died in 1998.

Burial at Glenwood Cemetery was private. A memorial service will be held at the Stony Lane Baptist Church, 921 Old Baptist Rd . in North Kingstown, on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at 10am.
