Patricia Manire

Patricia Manire, 85 of Coventry passed away on July 9, 2025,. Born in Providence as Priscella Andren, later renamed Patricia Andren, she grew up in Cranston of Swedish descent the daughter of Elsie (Ericson) Andren and Russell Andren of Cranston.

Pat graduated from Cranston High School in 1958 where she played clarinet as the only girl in the marching band. After high school she interned at the former Chapin Hospital in Providence as a Laboratory Technician, then worked at the RI State Hospital in Cranston providing lab services for the psychiatric and infectious diseases departments. While there, she studied at the Providence URI campus earning her degree in Psychology. She then became a social worker at the RI Department of Children, Youth and Families until her retirement after which she continued part time training CNAs.

Through early marriages to David Duxbury and Jerry Russell she had two children, David Russell of North Kingstown, and Randy Russell of Lakewood, CO. She was later married to Dr. Stanley Berger, Chair of the Psychology Department at URI, and was step-mother to his children Eric of Florida, and Greg, Gigi and Zach of North Kingstown, until Stan’s untimely passing in 1984. In 1989 Pat married Larry Manire of Providence and was step-mother to his two children Aaron Manire of New Hampshire and Kerry Taylor in Massachusetts. They lived for 15 years in North Kingstown and then 21 years in Western Coventry where her son, David, built their home on Quidnick Reservoir. In all, she had 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pat was known for her strong, welcoming nature, conversational skills and her innate ability to connect with others. She had lots of friends and was a loving and caring mother taking her kids to the beach, skiing, and after church gathering for Sunday dinner at the grandparent’s house. She loved nature, animals and gardening. She always had a dog, especially a German shepherd, and at least one cat. Later in life she became a Master Gardener. Her vibrant spirit and zest for life were often reflected in her choice of sporty automobiles including a white Impala convertible, a red Firebird convertible, a green Camaro hard top and finally two Honda CRXs. For many years she was involved with the East Greenwich Academy Players theater group, contributing as an actress, makeup artist, stage manager, and often lending her beautiful alto voice to the chorus of musicals. Later she sang with the Jamestown Chorus and other vocal groups. She also enjoyed travel, exploring about 25 states and 20 countries. Her favorite music was Rock-n-Roll and she could sing along with virtually every such song from the 50’s and 60’s.

Per Pat’s wishes, burial was immediate at Glenwood Cemetery, East Greenwich. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 12th at 11 am with reception to follow at Westminster Unitarian Church, 119 Kenyon Ave, East Greenwich.
