Paul G. Salvas, 57, of East Greenwich, passed away March 5, 2017. Born in Warwick, he was a son of the late Henry L.A. and Evelyn A. (Snowling) Salvas.
Paul was a graduate of East Greenwich High School, Class of 79. He most recently worked as a Supervisor for RIBI Security and as a Community Service Officer for the Warwick Police Department. He formerly worked at Weaver Publishing Company.
He started his involvement with the East Greenwich Volunteer Fire Department as a Jr. Volunteer Fire Fighter and continued with Company #1 for over 30 years. While there, he worked his way up to Rescue Lieutenant and has also served as President for many years.
A member of the East Greenwich Fireman’s Association since its conception, Paul served as Social Chairman for many years and recently was elected 1st Vice President. He worked as a liaison between the E.G.V.F.A. and Boy Scout Troop #1, who were sponsored by the E.G.V.F.A.. He also organized the Fire Fighter’s Memorial Service at the East Greenwich Veteran Fireman’s Hall every June and was Secretary of the Rhode Island Antique Fire Apparatus Society.
Paul showed his commitment and loyalty to his community and fellow members of the Fire and Police Departments for which he served. His generous spirit will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his children, Mitchell P. and Mikayla E. Payne and brothers, Herbert H. and Robert C. Salvas.
Calling hours: Friday, March 10th 4-8pm at The Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association. A Memorial Service will be held at the East Greenwich Veteran Fireman’s Hall on Monday March 13, 2017 at 10:00am, 80 Queen St., East Greenwich.
