Paul M Toher, 69, of North Kingstown, RI, passed away on Oct 1. He was the son of the late John T and Marjorie E (Tingley) Toher.
Paul grew up in Rumford and Cumberland, RI graduating from Cumberland High School and Rhode Island College. Before retiring, he worked at Electric Boat as a technician with the Accuracy Control Group.
Paul was a recognized student athlete with a passion for Track and Field. In 2011, he was granted a second chance at life with a lung transplant at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Paul enjoyed nine years of great health after his transplant, allowing him to compete and win his events (50 m and 100 m dash) in the 2016 Ocean State Senior Olympics. Paul also enjoyed helping students attain their personal athletic goals as a volunteer with the North Kingstown High School Track team.
Paul is survived by his brothers, John Toher, (Barbara) of Lexington, KY, Mark Toher, (Barbara Burek) of South Salem NY, James Patrick Toher, (Kim) of Portland, OR, and his sisters, Mary Sullivan (Andrew Timothy) of Sarasota FL, and Margaret Wecker of Seattle WA; his nephews, John Toher, Jack Sullivan, and Paul Wecker; and his nieces, Merry Toher, Katherine Wecker and Kelly Wecker.
Visitation will be held Monday, Oct. 7 from 5 pm to 8 pm at Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St, East Greenwich, RI. His funeral and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to support the Lung Transplant Program.
