Philip Joseph Hopp, affectionately known to many as “Hoppy.” ,95, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient center in Providence, RI, Hoppy led a remarkable life filled with love, service, and community.

Born and raised in East Greenwich, where he lived for 77 years before moving to Warwick in October 2008, Phillip was the beloved son of the late Edward and Lena (Miniero) Hopp. He had a strong bond with his hometown and cherished his deep roots there. He was the devoted husband of 67 years to the late Barbara W. Shadeck, a partnership that was an inspiration to many.

In his early twenties HOPPY was a volunteer Firfighter for the Town of East Greenwich.
As a Korean War veteran, Hoppy proudly served in the United States Army, demonstrating courage and dedication to his country. After his military service, he and Barbara shared a passion for hospitality as owners of the Post Road Inn, a popular restaurant in East Greenwich that they ran successfully for 25 years. Their love for people extended beyond the restaurant; they organized numerous large vacations to the Caribbean, Mexico, and Las Vegas, bringing together customers, friends, and employees for unforgettable memories.

Phillip’s legacy continues through his family. He is survived by his three children: Gary Hopp and his significant other Catherine of Warwick/Wakefield, Christopher Hopp and his wife Cynthia of Puerto Rico, and Tracy Armstrong and her husband Thomas of Warwick. He was also a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and a great-grandfather to eleven great-grandchildren. His extended family includes several nieces and nephews who held him in great affection.

We invite relatives and friends to come together to celebrate Hoppy’s life. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 12 to 2 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 2 PM at the Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, located at 800-812 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick, RI. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Hoppy are greatly appreciated and can be made to Hope Health Hospice either online at www.hopehealth.org/inmemory or sent by mail to 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904. The arrangements have been entrusted to the HILL-SKEFFINGTON FUNERAL HOME of East Greenwich.
