Rhonan F. Pond, affectionately known as “Rolando” and “Preacher,” passed away in Rhode Island at the age of 78. Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Rhonan lived a rich and meaningful life, grounded in a deep pride for his heritage and a sharp, inquisitive mind. He served his country honorably in the United States Army.

Beyond his military service, Rhonan was admired for his intelligence, his love of history and culture, and his remarkable gift for languages. Though he was a man of few words—and at times a touch of grump—those who knew him best recognized the depth of his humor, his quiet wisdom, and the warmth he carried. His presence brought wit, perspective, and love to every room.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, his legacy will live on through the stories, laughter, and love he leaves behind. Rhonan is survived by his beloved wife, Amy Miles of Providence, Rhode Island; his daughters, Ronna Miles of Orlando, Florida, and her partner, Joshua Isom, and Siedah Johnson of Cranston, Rhode Island, and her husband, Derrell Johnson; as well as four cherished grandchildren: Genisa Cooper, Joseph Alonzo Jr, Jaden Fraielli, and Giana Crowell. He also leaves behind several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Rolando Miles, and his mother, Lucille Pond—whose memory remains a source of comfort and whose spirit now welcomes him home.

A private funeral service for Rhonan will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025.
