Richard Waterman Nagle Jr., a lifelong resident of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, at the age of 84. Richard was born on April 21, 1940 in Providence, Rhode Island to parents Richard Nagle and Mary (Kelly) Nagle.
A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Richard spent his career as a science teacher for Warwick Public Schools, where he inspired generations of students with his curiosity and enthusiasm for the natural world. He was most himself when he had the opportunity to bring students outside, to facilities like Project Oceanology in Groton and URI’s Alton Jones campus.
It was through teaching that he met his wife, Lola Gormley; they built a life together in a home surrounded by nature, including a pond with Richard’s large flock of ducks, both domestic and wild, who enjoyed his attentive care. Richard proudly served as a volunteer firefighter with the North Kingstown Fire Department. He was a model train enthusiast as well as a member of the Antique Fire Apparatus Society and a dedicated Secretary for the Rhode Forest Conservators Organization.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Lola, and his daughters, Janet (Paul) and Rachel (Christine), as well grandchildren, Luke Belval (Kim), Hannah and Phoebe Nagle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, David and Lee, and his granddaughter Emily Belval. He will be deeply missed by his family, many friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Relatives and friends are in invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, March 15th at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich. Burial will be in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. Calling hours: Friday ,March 14th from 5-7 pm at the Fagan Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck, Rd., North Kingstown under the direction of the HILL – SKEFFINGTON FUNERAL HOME OF EAST GREENWICH. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Special Olympics.
