Rita M McGoff, beautiful, selfless, and kind, age 66, of East Greenwich RI died on June 19, 2019, peacefully at home surrounded by love, family and friends. She courageously fought brain cancer with a smile on her face and without one complaint for the past 8 months.
She was born April 11, 1953 in Danbury CT. She lived on Betsy Williams Drive in Cranston for 10 years and in East Greenwich for 33.
She was the devoted bride of Frank P McGoff for 43 years, mother of her son Michael McGoff and his wife Nan and mother to her daughter Elizabeth and her husband James Tomaseski.
She was a loving “Mimi” to her 5 grandchildren: Addison, Nash, Hadley, Emma and Cooper.
Rita earned her social work degree from Rhode Island College and her Master’s in Education from URI. She was a social worker at heart but loved teaching second grade. She taught for 22 years at Frenchtown Elementary in East Greenwich, RI. Nothing gave her more joy than to see the sparkle in her students eyes when they learned to love learning. That said, her car was always packed on the last day of school and at 3:30 she was on her way to the Jersey Shore for the summer. There she stayed at the family home with her two sisters-in-law, played tennis with great friends and enjoyed the back deck.
Rita will be remembered by dozens of friends in East Greenwich from her years of volunteering in women’s groups where lifelong friendships developed. Rita loved to talk but she was also an amazing listener. She was both interested and interesting.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 21st 4-7 pm at Hill Funeral Home 822 Main Street East Greenwich, RI .
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 22nd at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mercy Church 65 3 rd Street East Greenwich, RI. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery East Greenwich, RI.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Rita’s memory to a charity of your choice or to The Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth Convent Station, NJ 07961-0476
