Robert J. Carlin (Ret. PPD)

Robert J. Carlin, 76, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, formerly of Cranston, Rhode Island, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. He was the beloved husband of the late Christina Carlin. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Raphael Joseph Carlin, Jr. and Ann C. (Connor) Carlin.

A graduate of LaSalle Academy and Western New England College, Robert dedicated 23 years to serving the community as a detective with the Providence Police Department. Following his retirement from the department, he served with the Rhode Island Capitol Police for 10 years before retiring to Port St. Lucie.

A devoted New England sports fan, he also enjoyed playing in his BAGS golf league and bowling with his PPD league. He was a proud member of FOP Lodge #3.

He leaves behind his three children, Robert (Bobby) Carlin, Jr. (PPD), of Lincoln, RI, and Melissa A. Carlin and Kenneth J. Carlin, both of Port St. Lucie, FL; his sister, Patricia A. Parker; and his two grandchildren, Ava Emilia and Jack Robert Carlin.

Robert will be lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and the many colleagues with whom he served throughout his career.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Skeffington Funeral Home, 925 Chalkstone Avenue, Providence, RI. A funeral service will be held the following morning, Thursday, November 5, at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery.
