Russell N. Brailsford, of Anchor Bay, 945 Main St., East Greenwich, RI, died Monday, December 4 at Greenwood Center after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Jane (Ogden) from 1956 until her passing in 2012. Born in 1928 at Lying In Hospital in Providence, RI, he was the second son of 5 children born to Dorothy (McGinnes) and Charles Brailsford.
He is survived by Gordon and Norman Brailsford and was the brother of the late Charles Brailsford Jr and Dorothy Green. He was the beloved father of Kathleen Tusia and Karen Hogan and the adored grandfather of Elizabeth Hogan and Jack Hogan.
As a young man in the Depression, he helped his father deliver ice and eggs, and helped his mother collect rents, and learned hard work at an early age. He attended college at night, entered the Airforce National Guard and eventually settled into self-employment with F & E Check Protector after working for many years for the Burroughs-Todd Company. He was very successful because he worked hard and truly cared about his customers. He retired 40 years ago and lived in Florida and Rhode Island and played tennis most every day until he turned 90. He had an innate kindness and a genuine love of people, and no one remained a stranger for long.
The family has arranged a private burial.
Arrangements entrusted to the Skeffington Funeral Home and Cremations 925 Chalkstone Avenue Providence.
