Salvatore A. DeSalvo

Salvatore Anthony DeSalvo was born August 13, 1935 in Red Bank, New Jersey, to Antonio and Mary DeSalvo. Sal was an eager and determined student, well versed in history and the arts. He was an equally talented athlete, performing well in both team sports and in more singular endeavors, going on to break school records in both the Broad Jump and the 100 Yard Dash.

Salvatore met Phyllis Bott at Leonardo High School, where the two fell in love. After high school came Rutgers University and Douglass College, where Sal continued to excel in sports and studies.

Academics gave way to romance on August 10, 1957, when Sal and Phyllis were married at Red Bank Presbyterian Church.

Sal began his career with a stint in the US Army Reserves, which took him and his young family to Georgia for a time.

A job opportunity brought Sal and his family back up north, where they eventually settled in East Greenwich, RI. He found a professional home at the Metropolitan Insurance company, where he thrived and grew over a 30-year career. Salvatore climbed the corporate ladder, retiring as the Vice President of the Claims Department.

Salvatore’s greatest role was that of a family man; his dedication and loyalty extended from his loving wife of 69 years, Phyllis Ann DeSalvo, to his children; Deborah Ann DeSalvo, Steven Phillip DeSalvo, Kelly Lynn DiCenzo, and Jennifer Marie DeSalvo

He was Pa to his grandchildren, to whom Sal was an evergreen source of adoration and warmth; Justin Anthony Guertin Flint, Marissa Ann LaBella, Christina Marie DiCenzo, Nathan Michael Haddad, Noah Michael Haddad, and Luke Michael Haddad.

Sal recently welcomed four great grandchildren, a third generation to follow in his footsteps of curiosity, kindness, and joy; Greyson Anthony LaBella, Elijah Christopher LaBella, Cheryl Eve Flint, and Mabel Lynn Flint.

Salvatore DeSalvo passed away peacefully on Sunday January 11th, 2026, surrounded by the quiet conversation and soft thrumming energy of his ever loving family. Services will be private with a memorial to follow in the spring. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hill Skeffington Funeral Home of East Greenwich. www.hillskeffington.com
