Sammie W. Clifton

Sammie W. Clifton, 75, of Exeter, died at home August 2, 2018 in the arms of his loving wife of 54 years, Margaret L. (Gabarra) Clifton.  Born in Shattuck, OK, he was a son of the late James L. and Effie L. (Clifton) Clifton.

Mr. Clifton had been an electrical engineer for General Electric.  He was a Vietnam Navy Veteran, and a graduate of Roger Williams College.  He had also been a Eucharistic Minister and had served on the Vestry at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in East Greenwich.

Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Cheryl Paquette and her husband Richard, David Clifton and his wife Lori and Laura Poindexter; grandchildren, Tyler Clifton, Sarah and Emily Paquette and Emmitt Poindexter and a great granddaughter, Haley Heeks.  He was the brother of the late Marvin, R.J. and Chester Lee Clifton.

Funeral Service Wednesday, August 8 th at 10:00AM at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Peirce St., East Greenwich.  Burial with military honors will be in Forest Chapel Cemetery, Barrington.  Calling hours: Tuesday, August 7 th 4-7PM at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be to a charity of your choice or Hope Hospice and Palliative Care.
