Satsuko Murphy

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Satsuko Murphy, 87, of Warwick, Rhode Island, passed away on the morning of May 31, 2023.

Satsuko was born May 6, 1936, in Kawasaki, Japan to the late Yoshitaro and Tsuru (Suzuki) Yoda.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 34 years, Edmund E. Murphy, her son, James J. Murphy, her granddaughter, Marissa M. Murphy, her brothers, Shinobu, Masaru, and Minaru, and her sister Shimoko Sakurai.

Satsuko is survived by her children, John F. Murphy, Randy E. Murphy (Nettie), daughter in law Denise Murphy, seven grandchildren, John Murphy, Michele Murphy, Marc Murphy, Deanna Palombo (Ian), Kayla Murphy, Brittany Murphy, and Justin Murphy (Sarah).  She is also survived by her three great-grandchildren, Avery Palombo, Penelope and Lennox Murphy, in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Throughout her career, Satsuko worked as a seamstress for Paris Fabrics, and as an Electronics Assembler for Northern Telecom and Astro-Med.

Satsuko and Edmund met in Japan during his career in the Army. They married on June 27, 1956, and had three sons. After his military retirement in 1972, they settled in Warwick, RI.

Satsuko enjoyed dancing, music, and had many artistic hobbies to include Floral arrangement, Japanese Doll crafting, and gardening. They spent many hours on their boat plying Narraganset Bay in the summertime and playing cards with friends and family.

Funeral Service Thursday, June 8th at 11:00am at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. Calling hours will be prior to the service from 9:00am to 11:00am.  Burial will be in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
