Shirley R. Mathews

Shirley Rae Mathews(Sweet) passed away peacefully on May 4, 2021 surrounded by her children.  Shirley leaves behind her children, Curtis Mathews, (his wife Kathleen Mathews), daughter Michelle Gosselin, son Scott Mathews &  daughter Andrea Mathews. She was a step mother to Dawn Phaneuf(Mathews), Daniel Mathews and the late Donna Mathews. She leaves behind 9 grandchildren, Crystal, Stephanie, Justin, Steven, Alyssa, Trevor, Kirsten, Olivia & Julian. She leaves behind 2 great grandchildren, Jayden & Jarek.

Born on May 30, 1952 Shirley was the daughter of the late Eleanor Sweet (Houghton) and the late Raymond Sweet of Warwick, RI. Shirley was the sister of Charles "Butch" Holmes (deceased), Marsha Holmes (deceased), Daniel Sweet , Raymond Sweet(deceased), &  Michael Sweet.

Shirley was a graduate of Warwick Veterans Memorial High School & graduated from CCRI with an Associate's degree.

Family was the heart of Shirley. She was loving, kind, patient and such a selfless person. She will be terribly missed.

Visitation Monday, May 10th 4-6pm, followed by a Memorial Service at 6:00pm at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to: The American Liver Foundation, National Institute of Mental Health or the charity of your choice in her name
