Stewart G. Hall

Hall, Stewart G. 85, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2017 surrounded by loving family.
Born July 2, 1932, in Providence, R.I., he was the son of Graham R. and Inez (Bedell) Hall, Stew was raised in Providence, and resided in New York and Massachusetts before settling in Warwick with his late wife Barbara and their children.
Stew was an avid storyteller, an enthusiast of all things mechanical, and above all, a fan and champion of his family.
Throughout, the Boy Scouts featured prominently in Stew’s life. Growing up, he was a member of Troop 82 in Providence. A loyal Scout and Assistant Scoutmaster, Stew spent more than 50 years actively involved with the Narragansett Council and Troop 82. He mentored many a young Scout, passing on his love of Scouting to his son and grandsons.
Stew graduated from Hope High School in 1951. He began his studies at the University of Rhode Island in the fall of 1951 and volunteered for the draft in 1953. Stew served in the United States Army for two years during the Korean War and resumed his studies at URI afterward, graduating with a degree in Industrial Management in 1958. While at URI, he was a photographer for The Grist and a brother at Phi Mu Delta.
After graduation, Stew moved to Syracuse, New York, where he worked as a field engineer for Fram Industries. He then relocated to Brockton, Massachusetts, and eventually home to Providence, where he later worked as a service writer for Criss Cadillac, and married his late wife Barbara (Wright) who was the love of his life.
He retired in 1996 from the Electric Boat division of General Dynamics where he built submarines for the Navy, a job that brought him great joy and satisfaction.
In addition to his work with the Boy Scouts, Stew was a trustee of the William Reynolds Homestead Cemetery Reunion in North Kingstown.
For the past five years, Stew was a resident at St. Elizabeth’s Home, where he was affectionately known as “the sheriff.”
He will be remembered for his quick wit, his long stories, his
love of music, photography, camping, auto mechanics, and computers, but most of all he will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family.
Stew was the proud father of Kimberly (Hall) Swanson and her husband Brian, of Wasilla, Alaska, Ronald I. Marshall, Jr., and his wife Mary, of East Greenwich; and Betsy (Hall) Palazzetti and her husband David, of South Kingstown; brother to Donald H. Hall and his wife Nancy, of Orinda, California; loving grandfather to grandchildren Erik, Emily, Andrew, Matthew, Molly, Gregory, Ryan, Johnathan, Ethan and Luke, and great-grandchildren, Clark, Jane, Dean, Marcy, Moriah, Gideon, and Lauren.
