Susan A. Metzger

Susan (Weinrich) Metzger,, age 78, formerly of East Greenwich, passed away on October 11, 2018 surrounded by her family after a long illness. She is predeceased by her husband, James Metzger. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Hawkey) Weinrich of Chicago, IL.

Those who knew Susan well will remember her as being very active in the Our Lady of Mercy community, both the church and school. She worked for years at Antique Boutique and later for

Hill Funeral Home. Her outgoing personality and infectious laugh made her a favorite member of the East Greenwich community. Her children were the most important part of her life, her pride and joy.

Susan was the loving mother of six children: Susan Gracia and her husband Alvaro of Providence RI; Molly Martin and her husband Richard of Lake Forest, IL; Catherine Schiffers and her husband Peter of Evergreen, CO; James Metzger and his wife Sara of Leicester, NC; Elizabeth Metzger of Franklin, MA and Ann Metzger of Narragansett, RI. She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Christian, Claire and Caroline Gracia, Michael, Madeline and Jack Martin, Emma and Kate Metzger and Luke, James and Ella Schiffers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, October 20 ^th at 10:00am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich.  Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, East Greenwich.  Donations to the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated. Special thanks to the staff at Wingate on the East Side in Providence for their exceptional care of Susan. They made her feel truly loved in her final days.
