Ting Ru Huang

Ting Ru Huang, 60, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017. She was the wife of the late Adrian Huang who preceded her in death in 2003, and mother to Daria Huang (age 27) and Stephanie Huang (age 24). Born in Shanghai China, Ting was the daughter of Yichu Yin and the late Moyu (Chang) Yin. She had one younger brother, Dunwei Yin.

Ting’s passion and talent for the arts began in childhood. She studied drama and was also trained as an opera singer in China before going on to star in several movies as an actress. Later, she won a scholarship to study English and film at the University of Ohio. While in the US, she met Adrian and married in 1987. They lived in New York City until they began their family and settled in East Greenwich, RI in 1989.

Ting enjoyed sharing her Chinese heritage with others, and was a Chinese language instructor in various schools throughout RI. She most recently taught at Bryant University and Clarke University in Worcester, MA. Her passion for Chinese cooking, history, and tourism contributed to a teaching style which made her classes both informative and fun.

Ting lived through a tumultuous time in China as a teenager and spent three years working in a labor camp. She was recently reunited with several of her labor camp friends who now live in the US, and was comforted by these friends and others who have supported her during her illness.

Ting persevered through life’s adversities with grace and courage and will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit. Her greatest joys were found in being a devoted mother to her loving daughters.

Calling hours: Friday from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich followed by a funeral service at 7:00 pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Women & Infants Hospital, the program in Women’s Oncology.
