Verna A. Russell

Verna Almira(Corning) Russell passed away peacefully at Kent Regency Nursing Home, Warwick RI on May 14, 2020.  She was born in Providence, R.I. to the late Zita Almira (Danis) Corning and Henry A. Corning.

Verna was regularly active in her younger years in her church community of St. Michael's Church in Providence, R.I. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and past president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society which was an active organization involved in the needs of the less fortunate members of the community. She was a soloist in the church choir there and was known for her beautiful rendition of singing Ave Maria at funerals. She loved giving her time and energy to all who needed any help. She was also an Arthur Murray dancing instructor which was a passion of hers for many years. In her later years she was active in the St. Joseph church community in North Scituate where she sang in the choir.

Her family will always remember her parties, which were always a family favorite. Family will remember her for her great cooking skills and her very funny personality. She could always make family members laugh.

Verna is survived by her three daughters, Patricia Gosselin of East Greenwich, Debra Zuba of West Greenwich, and Margaret Russell of West Warwick and one son Frederick Russell of West Warwick.

She is also survived by her four grandsons Gregory Jackson, Jeremy Jackson, Daniel Gosselin, Lucas Pichette, and one granddaughter, Emily Pichette: two great grandsons, Aaden Jackson and Santiago Jackson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by three brothers, Edward Corning, Francis Corning, and Henry Corning and two sisters Doris Haronian and Barbara Rego.

Due to the pandemic a Memorial Mass will be held at a future date.
