Vincent Maddalena, beloved father, husband, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 28 at the age of 88 after a short illness. Born in East Greenwich to Quirino and Carolina (Caldamone) Maddalena. He was the former husband of the late Sylvia (Cardillo) Maddalena. Vincent was known for his kindness, compassion, and commitment to those he loved.
A lifelong East Greenwich resident, Vincent was a dedicated member of the community and cherished by all who knew him. He spent much of his career in the hardware business, formerly owning Oaklawn Hardware in Cranston and spending 32 years at Greenwich Hardware. He was highly regarded for his work ethic and integrity. Involved in politics, he was a past member of the East Greenwich Zoning Board of Review. Always staying busy, he made egg biscuits for Wild Harvest, his daughter’s restaurant, and Italian gravy for family birthday dinners.
Outside of his professional life, Vincent had a passion for culinary arts, painting and music and was a master gardener, bringing joy and inspiration to those around him.
Vincent is survived by his cherished children, Paula Maddalena, Vincent Maddalena, Jr. (Deceased), Erica Maddalena and his grandchildren Briel (Mike) Laughter, Sydney (Brandon) Johnson, Brittney (Juan) Arevalo, Peter Brouillard, Isabella Balsamo, Maxxwell Brouillard, Michael Balsamo and great-grandson Vincent Arevalo who were a constant source of pride and joy. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday November 4th at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, East Greenwich. Visitation will be held prior to the mass from 9-10:30 am in the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. In lieu of flowers donations in Vincent’s memory may be made to the URI Master Gardener Program.
Vincent Maddalena will be remembered not only for his warmth and wisdom but also for the love he shared and the lives he touched. His legacy will endure, reminding us of the importance of kindness, resilience, and family.
