Walter W. Mitchell

WALTER W. MITCHELL, 73, a longtime resident of Narragansett, passed away September 1, 2023. He was the husband of Joyce A (Barton) Mitchell. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Ethel (Capwell) Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell had been an engineer for General Dynamics Electric Boat for 35 years. He was a member of the United States Coast Guard Reserve, serving as Boatswain’s Mate Senior Chief Petty Officer at U.S. Coast Guard Station Castle Hill, Newport, for 30 years (1970-2000).

Walter also was an avid sailor, enjoyed working with mechanical things, including a collection of Pontiac Fiero automobiles, and road trips to his second home in Bath, Maine.

He is survived by his brother Ken, his wife Joyce, his son Jeffrey and his wife Catherine, his son Jonathan and his wife Jennifer, his grandchildren Taylor, Zachary and his wife Brittany, and Grace, and three great-grandchildren Brooke, Natalie and Derek.

Funeral Service Monday September 11th at 11:00am at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. Burial with military honors will be in Knotty Oak Cemetery, Coventry. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 9:00 am -11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the East Greenwich United Methodist Church.
