William J. Moise, Sr. "Bill"

81, passed away on April 7, 2017 in The Villages, Florida after several courageous battles with cancer.  Born in Providence, the son of the late Francis M and Lillian (Simonetti) Moise, he was the brother of Frank J. Moise, Carolyn Foster and the late Providence Fire Chief Michael F. Moise, Sr.  Bill served during the Korean War in The Marines 2nd Division Air Wing. He spent most of his life serving the city he loved; growing up in the Washington Park section of Providence, RI where he later served as a City Councilman for Ward 10 (1978-1981) and President of the Washington Park Community Center.  He was most passionate about his service as a Providence Firefighter. His career was shortened after disabling injuries sustained from a gas explosion in a basement fire at Chad Brown Housing Project in 1972. He received an A.S in Fire Science from CCRI, was the Secretary Treasurer of Local #799 Firefighters Union, an Ironworker for Local #37 and a DOT Inspector for the State of RI, Local #400.   Bill was an avid horse lover and owned several thoroughbreds that raced at the Lincoln and Narragansett Race Tracks in Rhode Island during the mid-1970's. He moved to the Villages of Country Club Hills in 2014. Besides listening to his favorite Elvis & Patty Paige songs, he enjoyed playing cards (Knock-Gin Rummy) at home with his Korean Army War Veteran friend, "The Late Army Sgt. Edward Briggs Sr." and then with The Pitch/Hi-Lo Groups twice a week at The Paradise Recreation Center, followed by a coffee & doughnut at Dunkin Donuts.  He leaves his wife, Janet (Mukai) Moise, and four children, William J. Moise, Jr., Donna Landy, John L. Moise, Margo Fletcher, along with seven grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.  Visiting hours on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 5-8pm at the J.F. Skeffington Funeral Home, 925 Chalkstone Avenue, Providence. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday April 19 at 10:00am at St. Michael's Church, Oxford St. Providence, followed by internment with full Military Honors in St. Ann's Cemetery, 73 Church Street, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Providence Permanent Firefighter Relief Association, P.O. Box 28054, Providence, RI 02908
